PROEM & POEM No. 124 - Matthew Twenty-Five / Part 1

      Among religions even philosophies or ideologies similarly institutionalized, there prevail observable progressions, digressions depending on one’s critique, perhaps some would characterize the same as thematic paradoxes, disparities, conflicts even contradictions. At some historical beginnings or epochs, written are what become recognized or revered as original text, ancient writ, sacred scripture therefore reliable, definitive, authoritative and so on. Thereafter within years or decades, formulated are summaries, conclusions, commentaries even doctrines, dogmas per conclave, synod, diet, convention, assembly consensus  informal or popular, else formal, academic, pedantic, elitist or directorial. At such critical junctures, general disunity or discontent, there arise subsequent propositions, encouraging additional tenets complimentary or corrective else interpretations, revelations, reformations, heresies oft condemned, inciting transitions, transformations, sects or denominations, as well major schisms.

      To expand, perhaps complicate further, social and political influences gradually intertwine, haltingly serpentine the developmental timeline, when gained the acceptance even status or measure in part or whole the authority popular, academic, bureaucratic or governmental. Long coveted, soon embraced are the very political institutions and all their formerly despised trappings that historically oppressed the ideology, philosophy or religion pre-institutionalized. Here intellectual blindness or distortion sets in, for traditional orthodoxies and historical disparities are completely lost on most followers and sideliners, redefined by few clever sorts to distort, accommodated by some genuine souls to console and reconcile. So when considering a religion like Christianity, within an empire like United States and 2000 year old scripture like Matthew chapter 24, the words of Christ brightly red-texted in most Bibles no longer seem applicable.

Or a dog-eared book, every page faded and earmarked

Her semantics well peculiar, his poetics’ odd swagger

Tore at twain hearts as ardor-assassins’ steely daggers

O passion’s cold cadavers, lost in lovers’ hot wars

Tossed to floors, then to fires; unrelenting paramours

Although zealous lunatics of some haunted asylum

Forever dancing naked `tween Romanesque columns
