Resolve to serve no more... Quote by Etienne de la Boétie

You can deliver yourselves... by willing to be free. Resolve to serve no more....

"Everyone knows that the fire from a little spark will increase and blaze ever higher as long as it finds wood to burn; yet without being quenched by water, but merely by finding no more fuel to feed on, it consumes itself, dies down, and is no longer a flame. Similarly, the more tyrants pillage, the more they crave, the more they ruin and destroy; the more one yields to them, and obeys them, by that much do they become mightier and more formidable, the readier to annihilate and destroy. But if not one thing is yielded to them, if, without any violence they are simply not obeyed, they become naked and undone and as nothing, just as, when the root receives no nourishment, the branch withers and dies...

You can deliver yourselves if you try, not by taking action, but merely by willing to be free. Resolve to serve no more, and you are at once freed. I do not ask that you place hands upon the tyrant to topple him over, but simply that you support him no longer; then you will behold him, like a great Colossus whose pedestal has been pulled away, fall of his own weight and break in pieces."

Etienne de la Boétie (1530-1563)

Then he elaborated further...

"All this havoc, this misfortune, this ruin, descends upon you not from alien foes, but from the one enemy whom you yourselves render as powerful as he is, for whom you go bravely to war, for whose greatness you do not refuse to offer your own bodies unto death. He who thus domineers over you has only two eyes, only two hands, only one body, no more than is possessed by the least man among the infinite numbers dwelling in your cities; he has indeed nothing more than the power that you confer upon him to destroy you. Where has he acquired enough eyes to spy upon you, if you do not provide them yourselves? How can he have so many arms to beat you with, if he does not borrow them from you? The feet that trample down your cities, where does he get them if they are not your own? How does he have any power over you except through you? How would he dare assail you if he had no cooperation from you? What could he do to you if you yourselves did not connive with the thief who plunders you, if you were not accomplices of the murderer who kills you, if you were not traitors to yourselves?"

Quote by Aristotle from his work Organon...

"Thus 'positives' and 'privatives' do not belong to that class of contraries which consists of those which have no intermediate. On the other hand, they do not belong either to that class which consists of contraries which have an intermediate... In the case of 'positives' and 'privatives', however, change in both directions is impossible."

Aristotle (384–322 BC)

As stated in the text Categoriae as part of his work entitled Organon.

Yet government attempts just that routinely by proposing then legislating alleged positives riddled unavoidably with privatives quite detrimental per both the privatives themselves as well the enforcements thereof as driven by individual and collective ignorance, inexperience, arrogance, deviance, consistently preceded of course by individual and collective covetousness then presumption.

Regardless the promulgated positives, the intended or unintended privatives will often be in forms of taxation, confiscation, regulation, sanction, prohibition, and more heinous the negation of one actual right in favor of another conjured right. How maddening, for in the same motion and direction toward these blazoned positives or postured benefits as proposed, are at start the disguised or redefined privatives and at end the ignored or neglected detriments.

The worst conspiracies are in plain sight...

"The worst conspiracies are in plain sight." --- Edward Snowden

I concur and would add (per my previous post), the mere existence of government secrecy, always an unknown unmeasurable and unaccounted, raises exponentially the likelihood of corruption, collusion, collaboration even conspiracy. The point, unchecked secrecy makes impossible any attempt to prove or disprove such things.

BILL of RIGHT... Singular!

This excerpt from my latest book (click here for all books) is not intended for the currently propagandized but those yet grown even born, perhaps the year 3021 :-). The logical, ethical dismissal of "rights" plural is far beyond popular consideration and common education per emotional dependency and intellectual deficiency. Am I arrogant? Yes, I can be, however lets stay on point...

No. 139 - Bill of Right

If such understanding forms and foments, then solely amid ceaseless study, ponder and labor, concluding first in part, later in whole, to logically respect then ethically regard, hence fervently declaring then firmly establishing in this manner.

The propensity, preference and persistence upon observable practice by Each and Every Individual since first reasoned the Specie Human and Peculiar above all other species, thus consistently inclining, constantly insisting the Singular Right to Consent or Dissent regarding Each and Every Matter, indeed without exception as exemplified per unwanted prevention, unacceptable prohibition, undesirable preemption, unwelcomed intervention, unwarranted retroaction by persons ever covetous as well parties ever contemptuous whether private, religious, philosophical, economical, social, political, governmental and more.

Come let us Reason. Peace is always a Choice.
Study, Ponder, Labor, till last Breath.

A Bulgarian Trilogy

A Bulgarian Trilogy
by D.C. Quillan Stone , May 2005

Настане вечер - месец изгрее,
звезди обсипят свода небесен;
гора зашуми, вятър повее, -
Балканът пее хайдушка песен!

И самодиви в бяла премена,
чудни, прекрасни, песен поемнат, -
тихо нагазят в трева зелена
и при юнакът дойдат та седнат.

Hristo Botev
7th & 8th stanzas of the poem Hadzhi Dimitar
(ХАДЖИ ДИМИТЪР)

Note:
Rozova Dolina is a region known for its oil-bearing roses…the name means Rose Valley.  The following translated titles are Seven Lakes and Snow in May respectively.  The former is an area in the Rila Mountains while the later refers to the bridal wreaths which grows along avenues in Plovdiv... Thus the following verses as published in my 3rd book Epistola III - Soul Wanderings (Sep 2005).

Rozova Dolina

O Rozova Dolina, to plow your delicate fertility
To trust my head within your verdant Balkan mounds
Braving the Severen Djende, kissing your Botev Vrah
Beneath the nightlight slivers and daystar streams
As I finger-play your jeweled navel of Kazanluk
My phantasmal mind amble from Tutrakan to Petrich…
From Burgas to Sofia I reckon your harvest-passions
Gliding my palms across the moist unfurled petals
Tasting the dew until your opulent geography engulfs
My denuded state, as the rosefinch quavers "Iordanka!"
The last lover's symphony for the final everlasting

O Rozova Dolina, I canter your rows and bleed
Upon your painted toes, a troubadour's soul-washing
And dancer's pathetic lot, an eternal choreography
Your warm blossoms entice dithery fondling hands
Enamored by your lingering extensiveness
I clutch the thorny stems, pricking the flesh, placating
My languishing and desolate soul, while I drink
From the river Striama, anointing my battered crown
With your healing oil, as I prostrate in Karlovo field
Where your radiance burgeons in the Bulgarian sun

Sedemte Ezera

I dream above the elegiac valleys among the seven lakes
Above the fog and smog, above man and his malaises
Above earth’s factories and wars, above the past and future

Below, peace is swept upon the dung-pile of progression
Below, humanity are crunched in calculations of potentates
Below, men search for souls and solace in idioms and bottles

Here, hope transcends understanding, divinely surrendered
Here, gods roam, spirits wander, devils tremble, men aspire
Here, a whisper descends, notions form, imaginations kindle

He maunders the lunatic edge of the pools and precipices
She bathes in the cool clear timelessness and indefatigability
They blur in union, ripen flesh, a callow recondite Lyubov

Here, a rosefinch lights upon a stone, trilling whims and songs
Here, vagaries, passions, and nativities meld into vogue fashion
Here, he and she devour and embrace the nebular tranquility

Maysky Sniag

She strolls the cobbled serpentine course
Beneath the lush cantilevered verdure
The engorging white blossoms, along
The ancient trace, lusts the sun-rapiers
Like a fervid wanting betrothed in May
Snowfall-blooms delicately garment
The hips and bosom of Bunarjik Tepe
As dew drips from leaf to petal to blade
And the fog hangs like scattered wreaths
The muffled clicks of heel-to-toe soften
And tempered the rhythm of her jaunt
Brisk, yet clement, like a skilled ballerina
Her pony-tailed tress scantly pendulums
As the lady ascends the rising pavement

He wakens from a slumberous withdrawal
Grappling the eiderdown that caressed
Her nakedness, her warmth and smell
Lingers in the patch-quilt and cool air
Titillating the poet’s sensory, fettering
The will, while conducting a prurient
Motivation, anticipation, and direction
Envisaging her attenuated sensuousness
In Plovdiv’s crowded Ponedelnik Pazar
He moans and croons to the blaring radio
Washing from a cracked basin, as drops
Daub his dry lips, bethinking of the morn
Till the rise, he drew from her florid cistern
When a rosefinch flitted to the windowsill

French film Ascenseur pour l'échafaud... Soundtrack by Miles Davis...

The soundtrack recorded in 1957 at Le Poste Parisien Studio, for the French film "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud" directed by Louis Malle (1932-1995). Literally recorded while viewing unedited footages, Miles Davis (1926-1991) and band improvised, innovated, instituted what became quintessential foreign to American audiences; black&white scenes and sultry&seductive sounds of nylons and heels on concrete sidewalk and asphalt crosswalks in rhyme&rhymn to the master jazz trumpeter.

Diligently, modestly pour some artistically distilled whiskey, gin or cognac in complimentarily crafted crystal, on rocks or not, with sea-salt or not, with mint or not, then slowly, methodically enjoy your evening free of tyranny's covetousness, presumption and arrogance...

"And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of ALL his labour."

Ecclesiastes 3:13

Article by Prince Michael von Liechtenstein...

And in the below excerpt of the article lies the "rot at core" of the dilemma; there will be no end to the tyranny...

"However, the eagerness to impose consecutive lockdowns may suggest a certain degree of satisfaction in the power that the executive branch now wields. In many instances, parliaments have passed laws that add to government purview and reduce their own role in the democratic process... For example, in 1991, Germany levied a special solidarity charge on income tax, known as “Soli,” to help finance the country’s reunification. Today, Germany is one again, yet the charge remains in the books and enriches the general budget."

...The German incident cited is one of many examples. So it is in United States (my country). For numerous governmental expansions occurred upon every 20th century war, never to be rescinded, quietly remaining after each "alleged" military crisis passed. Consequently, it was no surprise the infamous Patriot Act during the Bush Administration had bipartisan support then as it does now, remaining intact, unquestioned by public, whistleblowers ignored, shunned even punished, forever to be enforced. So shall it be per the despotic mandates of 2020/21 disguised as public health measures.

Regarding Logic and Language... Quotes by John Stuart Mill and Henry Hazlitt...

Regarding Logic and Language...

"Since reasoning, or inference, the principal subject of logic, is an operation which usually takes place by means of words, and in complicated cases can take place in no other way: those who have not a thorough insight into both the signification and purpose of words, will be under chances, amounting almost to certainty, of reasoning or inferring incorrectly."

John Stuart Mill (1806-1873)

And per another admired thinker/writer...

"A man with a scant vocabulary will almost certainly be a weak thinker. The richer and more copious one's vocabulary and the greater one's awareness of fine distinctions and subtle nuances of meaning, the more fertile and precise is likely to be one's thinking. Knowledge of things and knowledge of the words for them grow together. If you do not know the words, you can hardly know the thing."

Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993)

Quote by George Boole... To unfold the secret laws and relations of those high faculties of thought...

"To unfold the secret laws and relations of those high faculties of thought by which all beyond the merely perceptive knowledge of the world and of ourselves is attained or matured, is a object which does not stand in need of commendation to a rational mind."

George Boole (1815-1864)

I would argue, append then emphasize the adjective "ethical" to "a rational mind" however logically synonymous hence obviously redundant.

An English mathematician, logician, philosopher therefore Boolean logic/algebra.
