PROEM & POEM No. 71 - Patriotism: Principle, Propaganda or Psychosis
---
Patriotism (see No. 5), the oddest of Isms, is always rooted in lofty rhetoric, forming arbitrary notions even whimsical fantasies, inciting passions for reverence of country, flag, government and war(s). Often involving folklore or myth entwined with selected actualities, embellishing further over time, and so goes the country’s founding and subsequent histories. This alluring blend of fact and fiction are revised and retold again and again within publicly funded classrooms, political convention halls and colluding newsrooms, emboldening self-absorbed notorieties and celebrities, benighted artists and writers/poets, empathetically misguided clergies and psychologists as well others. Convenient and deviant, the political goals are nothing less than obedience, devotion and allegiance to government’s call for obligation socially and duty militarily. The expectation and exchange is for power, requiring the sacrifice of the individual’s property and liberty at least, at most the individual’s life.
Interestingly in contrast to this strange fervor, the very same dynamics (schemes) are judged as propaganda in combating, competing even coexisting countries, and rightly so however biased. Such is the inherent nature of patriotism, prejudicially determining while tendentiously self-unaware, therefore intentionally or unintentionally disrespecting and disregarding the Peculiar Human Ability to Reason, inseparably the Singular Human Right to Consent or Not Consent of others thereupon undermining their own unknowingly.

By chariots of lights or flames, so-call liberty thus came
Endowed by maidens with swords liken nymphs to maim
Coveting blood-fame as goddesses per claimed allegiance
Voluptuously, unsustainably, unashamed the indulgence
---
Come let us Reason. Peace is always a Choice.
